Good news – it’s time for episode number two of my podcast, ‘How to Curate Your Life – Work Life Balance for the Creative Entrepreneur’. Thank you so much to all of the lovely people who have listened to episode 1. I’ve been overwhelmed by the encouraging feedback. I’m so pleased that you’re finding the subjects covered helpful and (many have said) inspiring. Anna was great wasn’t she!? I have so many interesting and inspiring guests and great conversation to share with you. I really hope you continue to find each week’s podcast as enjoyable as the one before. Fingers crossed!

In true London Design Festival form, this week has absolutely flown by. The launch event for the podcast at SMUG in association with Islington Design District and LDF was great fun (you may have noticed my insta stories). But more on that coming very soon in a separate blog post.

I’m really excited to be able to share episode 2 with you, which features the fabulous Charlotte Jacklin. If you don’t know Charlotte (although many of you will I’m sure), you might know her first baby Betty Magazine. Charlotte has had a fascinating career in fashion, digital media, blogging, lecturing and along side that journey of course, with her magazine Betty. Her baby June arrived around 5 months ago and Charlotte continues to curate her working and family life to try to develop and nurture a work life balance that works for her. And she’s still only 31! Our conversation covers careers, core values, money, motivation, life, what I really mean by the word ‘curate’ and lots more. I loved recording this episode so much and feel it sums up a huge amount of what I wanted to cover in the first series of the podcast as a whole. Thanks Charlotte! I hope you guys enjoy it.

Hi guys, for those of you interested I wanted to share a quick close up of this year’s Plant Pot exhibition, curated by me and housed upstairs at SMUG for London Design Festival as part of the Islington Design District.

Plant Pot is a collection of 12 one-off pots designed and made by friends of SMUG. I commission each designer to produce a pot using any material of their choice. The only guidelines being that it must fit on a 12cm deep shelf and hold a plant.

This year marks the third (and probably final) year of the show. I have loved cherry picking designers to work with, planting and curating the show. It also remains the most instagrammed project we’ve ever produced here at SMUG. It’s been a big success and really well received each year so thank you so much for your interest in it and for your shares of it in it’s various incarnations over the years. A huge special thanks goes out the 12 designers who took part for the 2017 show.

The designers this year are : Make & Matter, Origami Est, Forest & Found, Benjamin Craven. Rosie Drake-Knight, All The Ways To Say, The Lovely Drawer, FreddiedeLanka, Daniel Gleadall, Lizzie Scarlett Towndorw, Earl of East London and Lizzie Evans.

Each pot is shown below in order from left to right, top to bottom (as the designers names are listed above). Take a look and let me know your favourite. You can find the instagram handles for every designer tagged in the group shot on my instagram feed @ifeelsmug

I look forward to sharing a new group show with you next year that’s a little different. Thanks for reading, Lizzie :)

podcast episode no.1 with Anna Newton – how to curate your life

How to Curate Your Life podcast episode 1 with Anna Newton interviewed by Lizzie Evans

It’s here! The first episode of my podcast, ‘How to Curate Your Life – Work Life Balance for the Creative Entrepreneur’ is now available to listen to here. This episode, the first of a season of 10 episodes launching every Tuesday morning until late November, was an absolute joy to record. It was the very first one I recorded and I knew from the begging that I wanted Anna Newton of theannaedit.com to be my first guest.

I’ve admired Anna from afar (not in a creepy way, just in a ‘she’s so great and puts up content I love’ kind of way) for a couple of years now. I remember the moment I found her, having typed ‘skincare routine’ into google after deciding that, as I was in my 30s and not taking care of my skin, it was about time I sorted myself out. Anna was exactly what I needed. I’d never watched a youtuber or really followed a blogger before so Anna was also my entry point into a world and network of inspiring and creative women making it as entrepreneurs in the beauty and lifestyle world, which was exciting in itself.

I have loved working on the podcast for you guys. Finding the best aligned guests for the show, discussing topics with them that I think you will find helpful and editing the episodes as well as recording my own intros and outros which aim to highlight and unpack the most helpful takeaways from the conversation in my eyes. All with the intention that you get the absolute most out of the experience, wisdom and honestly of my guests. I really hope you enjoy this first episode. Please do follow Anna on Instagram, twitter and YouTube. She’s an absolute peach and is full of productivity advice, meal prep inspiration, capsule wardrobe goals and travel tips as well as her great advice when it comes to beauty. You can also sign up to her weekly newsletter ‘An Edited Life’ here.

If you’re not already subscribed to the podcast please please do :) and if you wouldn’t mind reviewing it that would be absolutely amazing as it’s the best way for more people to see the podcast and for the ‘How to Curate Your Life’ community to grow. I’d love to know your thoughts too so please do get in touch either by commenting here or on my instgram post of Anna which relates to this episode. Thanks again for all your support. Happy listening!
